Course Description:

This lecture will provide an engaging overview of common oral lesions and their mimics through short case presentations. Attendees will gain insights into recognizing and treating common mucous membrane diseases, such as Herpes simplex infection, recurrent aphthous stomatitis, lichen planus, lichenoid drug reactions, candidiasis, and geographic tongue. Additionally, the course will cover premalignant lesions, oral cancer, and pigmented oral cavity lesions, including their etiologies and differential diagnoses.

Course Objectives and Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this lecture, participants will:

  • Learn to perform differential diagnosis and understand current therapeutic approaches for common oral lesions.
  • Identify lesions suspicious for malignancy and comprehend the associated risk factors for their development.

Featured Speaker:

Dr. Renee F. Reich is a distinguished oral pathologist and educator from New York City. She earned her dental degree from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery and completed a residency in Oral Pathology at New York Presbyterian/Queens, followed by a fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at the same institution.

Dr. Reich is the Assistant Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Residency Program at New York Presbyterian/Queens and holds a teaching appointment as Assistant Professor of Surgery, Oral Medicine, and Oral Pathology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Dr. Reich is the current President-Elect of the Academy. She has served on committees such as the Commission on Dental Accreditation’s Review Committee on Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Education.

Renowned for her expertise, Dr. Reich has lectured widely on oral pathology and systemic disease manifestations and is an accomplished author and co-author of numerous scholarly publications.
