B is very excited about his upcoming bar mitzvah! In many ways he is a typical adolescent. He is a serious student who is described by his teachers as “special” and “outstanding” given his serious approach to studies and the high grades he earns. B participates in afterschool activities, loves soccer and bike riding and is fascinated by taking things apart and seeing how they work. He has a very busy schedule and rarely gets home before 7pm. He studies in a religious school until 5pm and then attends enrichment programs or soccer after school.

B was born into a typical family with two older sisters, however, a month after his birth, his mother suddenly took very ill and passed away. His father painfully recalls the difficult time. Still mourning his wife, he was left to raise three children on his own. Thanks to loving support and help from his family he was able to move forward and remarried two years later. A new family came together, and B and his siblings had a loving mother to care for them once again–and two more siblings!
The family struggles financially but is optimistic about life and their future. B’s father is a barber and his step-mother works as a preschool director.
B and his family are representative of many of DVI’s patients – normative families, each with their own hardships. Since they struggle with day-to-day expenses, proper dental care is not on the list of priorities. Without the free DVI clinic, B, his sisters and thousands of others like them, would not get the proper dental care and oral hygiene instruction that give them a chance to keep their own teeth and lead a healthy life!
When money’s tight, some families put dental care at the bottom of the list. Your donation will allow poor children to get the care they need today.
